This sacred site represents Divinity on earth and Divinity within mankind. MIchelle and I walked between two countries while crossing over the border between Israel and Jordan. ( we were two female Americans alone traveling together) In Eilat/Aqaba crossing on the Jordanian side we found a private car and driver to drive us by the "Kings Highway to Petra". On the way, our driver ( he turned out to be a really good guy and he made us feel safe in this country ) asked if we wanted to see where Lawrence of Arabia was filmed. "Wadi" meaning valley and "Rum" means "high or elevated"... We went to this valley and rode the only 2 camels in site from a young Bedouin boy wearing a Hawaii tshirt saying "aloha" and were in awe of the expanse of red desert and immense rocks surrounding us. We never felt scared except when riding the camels in this desert... it took a bit of getting used to the gait :0) [ voir sur Youtube.com ]

These mostly sandstone rocks with their height up to 750 meter emerge out of the sand as proof of sheer natural forces. Over 30 million years ago these rocks were pushed up when the Great Rift Valley took shape. When driving through with a Jeep Safari or hiking you will feel very tiny.
